This interactive and practical workshop is designed for educators who work with students facing emotional and behavioral challenges. Children struggling with frustration, stress, anxiety, Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) often face barriers that impact their academic performance, peer relationships, and emotional well-being. Understanding the root causes of these behaviors and how to respond effectively is essential to fostering a supportive and productive learning environment. Participants will explore how these conditions manifest in the classroom, including common triggers and the neurological and psychological factors that influence student behavior. The workshop will highlight strategies for de-escalation, trauma-informed responses, and building strong teacher-student relationships that promote trust and cooperation. Special attention will be given to early warning signs, ways to reduce stigma, and how to differentiate between behavior that is willful and behavior that reflects a student's struggle with self-regulation. Eligible for 6 hours CTLE credit. Can use 1-1/2 Consortium seats. If district pays, district approval must be confirmed prior to start of session.
